Ethernet Cables
You can connect your devices to a modem or router with your ethernet cable. You can also connect a switch to your modem or router and connect many devices to this switch.
Ethernet cable category (Cat) tells about bandwidth: The higher the number the better. Cat 6a is better than Cat 6. We recommend to use Cat 6 or Cat 6a or higher category cables. In practice even Cat 6 allows speeds of 10Gbit/s with maximum 55m cable. A longer connection can be achieved with a switch between 2 cables.
Cat7 does not use RJ-45 connectors and is not a recognized standard, so we don't recommend Cat7 installations.
The code before the slash designates the shielding for the cable itself, while the code after the slash determines the shielding for the individual pairs:
U = unshielded
F = foil shielding
S = braided shielding (outer layer only)
TP = twisted pair
For example S/FTP is very well shielded.
